PRODUCT: DR DOS
PRODUCT VERSION: 6.0
SUPERSEDES: 06FEB92
SYMPTOM: UNABLE TO INSTALL DR DOS
ISSUE/PROBLEM: A manual installation may be needed if the
normal DR DOS installation fails or if a custom installation is
required.
SOLUTION: Follow the steps listed below to manually SYS
(make bootable) the hard disk and install DR DOS.
NOTE: For this example of a manual installation we
have assumed that the bootable partition is lettered C:.
The instructions for a manual DR DOS installation are as follows:
1. Boot the DR DOS Startup floppy diskette to the first
installation screen. (If this is a 360K set of disks strike
CTRL-C, then Y when prompted to insert the Utilities #1 floppy
diskette. Proceed with step 3.)
2. Exit the installation by pressing <F10> and choosing Exit to
DR DOS.
3. From the A: prompt type SYS C: <Press ENTER>
This transfers the system files from the installation floppy
diskette in drive A: to the hard disk. C: is now a bootable DR
DOS hard disk partition.
4. Type C: <Press ENTER> and then CD\ <Press ENTER>
This moves you to the root directory of C:.
5. Type MD DRDOS <Press ENTER>
This creates the DRDOS directory on C:.
6. Type COPY A:\*.* C:\DRDOS <Press ENTER>
This transfers all of the files from the installation floppy
diskette to the C:\DRDOS subdirectory.
7. Repeat step #6 with the remaining DR DOS floppy diskettes.
8. Type MOVE SSTORDRV.SYS C:\ <Press ENTER>
This moves the SSTORDRV.SYS device driver to its proper
location in the root directory of C:.
9. Type MOVE DEVSWAP.COM C:\ <Press ENTER>
This moves the DEVSWAP.COM device driver to its proper
location in the root directory of C:.
10. Type REN INSTALL.EXE SETUP.EXE <Press ENTER>
This renames the INSTALL.EXE to SETUP.EXE. SETUP.EXE is the
setup program for DR DOS.
11. Type SETUP <Press ENTER>
This executes the setup program and allows the manual
configuration and installation of all of the individual portions
of DR DOS.
Please contact Novell Technical Support if you were unable to
successfully install any portion of DR DOS.
