  17.         SYMPTOM:  UNABLE TO INSTALL DR DOS 
  18.  
  19.   ISSUE/PROBLEM:  A manual installation may be needed if the
  20. normal DR DOS installation fails or if a custom installation is
  21. required. 
  22.  
  23.        SOLUTION:  Follow the steps listed below to manually SYS
  24. (make bootable) the hard disk and install DR DOS.
  25.  
  26.            NOTE:  For this example of a manual installation we
  27. have assumed that the bootable partition is lettered C:.  
  28.  
  29. The instructions for a manual DR DOS installation are as follows:
  30.  
  31. 1.   Boot the DR DOS Startup floppy diskette to the first
  32. installation screen. (If this is a 360K set of disks strike
  33. CTRL-C, then Y when prompted to insert the Utilities #1 floppy
  34. diskette.  Proceed with step 3.)
  35.  
  36. 2.   Exit the installation by pressing <F10> and choosing Exit to
  37. DR DOS.
  38.  
  39. 3.   From the A: prompt type SYS C: <Press ENTER> 
  40.      This transfers the system files from the installation floppy
  41. diskette in drive A: to the hard disk.  C: is now a bootable DR
  42. DOS hard disk partition.
  43.  
  44. 4.   Type C: <Press ENTER> and then CD\ <Press ENTER>
  45.      This moves you to the root directory of C:.
  46.  
  47. 5.   Type MD DRDOS <Press ENTER>
  48.      This creates the DRDOS directory on C:.
  49.  
  50. 6.   Type COPY A:\*.* C:\DRDOS <Press ENTER> 
  51.      This transfers all of the files from the installation floppy
  52. diskette to the C:\DRDOS subdirectory.
  53.  
  54. 7.   Repeat step #6 with the remaining DR DOS floppy diskettes.
  55.  
  56. 8.   Type MOVE SSTORDRV.SYS C:\ <Press ENTER> 
  57.      This moves the SSTORDRV.SYS device driver to its proper
  58. location in the root directory of C:.
  59.  
  60. 9.   Type MOVE DEVSWAP.COM C:\ <Press ENTER> 
  61.      This moves the DEVSWAP.COM device driver to its proper
  62. location in the root directory of C:.
  63.  
  64. 10.  Type REN INSTALL.EXE SETUP.EXE <Press ENTER>
  65.      This renames the INSTALL.EXE to SETUP.EXE.  SETUP.EXE is the
  66. setup program for DR DOS.
  67.  
  68. 11.  Type SETUP <Press ENTER>
  69.      This executes the setup program and allows the manual
  70. configuration and installation of all of the individual portions
  71. of DR DOS.

  74. Please contact Novell Technical Support if you were unable to
  75. successfully install any portion of DR DOS.
